SLHV is one of the first in the region to offer a protected heart procedure for advanced heart failure patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Known as a Protected PCI with the Impella 2.5, the World’s smallest Heart Pump, patients may now have a treatment option who otherwise were determined to be inoperable or not candidates for stents or angioplasty.
A Protected PCI procedure uses the Impella 2.5 heart pump to help maintain stable heart function during procedures by pumping blood for the heart. Benefits may include a reduction in adverse events, improvement in patients’ quality of life, less time spent in the hospital, and a reduced need for repeat procedures and related readmissions.
The Impella 2.5 recently received expanded FDA approval and is the only hemodynamic support device proven safe and effective for this patient population.
